I love a tasty muffin with my morning coffee, or as a mid day snack. And my kids love muffins just about ANY time of day. My mom is an incredible baker. I remember growing up she always had fresh baked goods waiting for us after school. She instilled a love of baking in me, and it’s become a way we show love to family and friends.
Now I understand the negative affects of sugar on the body, so I try to create recipes that reduce sugar and add healthy ingredients. That way I can still bake treats for those I love with healthy recipes like these Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins.
This recipe uses bananas and a small amount of added sugar (just 1/3 cup!) to sweeten the banana chocolate chip muffins. I also use Greek yogurt to keep the muffins moist and add some protein. Greek yogurt is an awesome addition to muffins and other baked goods. Benefits include improved gut health, immunity, and feeling fuller longer. Ground flaxseed, another nutritional powerhouse adding fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, in also included in the recipe.
For picky eaters, muffins are a great way to incorporate healthy ingredients. The addition of chocolate chips satisfies a sweet tooth and masks masks any unusual flavors. Give this recipe a try and see how long these muffins last!
To start, mash the ripe bananas in a large bowl. Then add the other wet ingredients – eggs, oil, yogurt, and vanilla extract. Mix well to completely combine.

Next, add the dry ingredients and stir until just mixed. It’s okay if the batter is a little lumpy. Expect it to be quite thick. Stir in the chocolate chips last.

After the batter is mixed, add to your muffin pan. This recipe should make 12 muffins. If you prefer, you can easily pour into loaf pans to make banana chocolate chip bread by increasing the cooking time. Or make mini muffins in a mini muffin pan and reduce the cooking time.

Bake the muffins at 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes. Remove when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. The muffins should be browned lightly on top. Let cool and enjoy!
